Odor Control

MENA-Water is an advocate of health and safety. We offer process integrated robust equipments designed to control odor emanated from wastes. The major odor-generating section in a plant are influent pumping stations, grit traps and grit storage areas, primary clarifiers, sludge dewatering areas and any place where anaerobic reactions may happen. This particular field is fully explained in products range needed to control air pollution in and around the treatment facility. There are several technologies of odor control treatment to prevent damage to health and discomfort caused by malodor.

Types of plants:


Bio-Filter

Biofilters consist essentially of four elements :

  • blower station with facility for conditioning/moisturing
  • air diffusion system
  • filter media support
  • filter material


Activated Carbon Filter

Activated carbon filters are designed and used for the removal of vapors and odours which still may be present within the air or gas flow.

The activated carbon filter adsorbs vapors and binds them to the surface of the activated carbon. The zero odour level is reached by contacting the air through a bed of activated carbon in an adsorber.

The carbon bed is sufficiently deep to assure complete odour removal at the nominal working point, but also at unexpected or seasonal peak concentrations. The contact time between the air and activated carbon should be between 2-4 seconds.

  • The air is deodorised in an activated carbon filter bed.
  • The zero odour level is reached by contacting the air through a bed of activated carbon.
  • The contact time between the air and the activated carbon should be min. 2-4 seconds.
  • Loading capacity approx. 20% of the installed carbon weight
  • The odours are adsorbed and catalytically converted into sulphuric acid in the fine pore structure of the carbon. (if the main gas is H2S)
  • Special catalytic carbon types can be regenerated by water.

Wet Scrubber

Gas scrubbing systems absorb gaseous pollutants in liquids as water, sometimes with added chemicals. Wet scrubbers can be manufactured as single or multistage unit, round, angular, upright or horizontal for indoor or outdoor construction.

Therefore material must be capable to endure permanent contact with high and low PH gases and scrubbing solutions. Material range: PE, PP, PVDF, PVC as well as FRP in a composite construction. Processes based on physical -chemical oxidation are possible.



Bio-Trickling Filter

Biotrickling filter combines the advantages of biofilter and bioscrubber processes for purifying waste gas.

Waste gas flows through a biomedia filter bed. An automatically controlled spraying nozzles system is installed above the biomedia filter bed in order to spray water with nutrients and mineral water onto the filter bed.

The nutrient liquid ensures optimum biological process conditions for the microorganisms, which settle to the surface of the filter bed's carrier material. The microorganisms convert the pollutants into CO2 and water. The nutrient liquid re-enters the filter by spraying nozzles due to a circulation system.
